1) Bulk Waste Amnesty Day – Saturday, September 23
Middletown’s Bulk Waste Amnesty Day is open to residents participating in the PAYT program, the event will run from 8:00 a.m. through 1:00 p.m. on September 23, 2017 at Second Beach in Middletown, call or email to schedule a drop off time (examples of bulk waste: couches, chairs, mattresses, bicycles, rugs, large plastic toys, scrap metal & electronic waste).
Residents MUST call or email (401-842-6519 or wcronin@middletownri.com) in advance to schedule a time to drop off large items. Please provide:
1) Your address
2) A detailed list of what you would like to bring down and
3) Let me know what time would be convenient for you to drop off material.
The next Bulk Waste Amnesty Day will be held in September.

* * Items not accepted: * *
Hazardous waste*, Yard Waste, Cardboard, Tires, Household trash, items small enough to fit in a PAYT bag and more than one bundle** of Lumber, Construction and Demolition material*
* a bundle is as much as you can carry in your arms or as much as can fit in a 30-gallon trash barrel

Information on Bulk Waste, including a list of charitable organizations can be found here: www.MiddletownRI.com/bulk
The Aquidneck Island Sell & Swap Facebook Page and craigslist.org are great outlets for trying to give, or sell, something.

* Bicycles, bike parts and accessories dropped off at the Bulk Amnesty Day will be offered to Bike Newport.
Bike Newport’s Bike Rescue initiative supports Earn-and-Learn and the Bike Library. These programs are designed to provide youth and other community members with access to bicycles and the know-how to maintain them and ride safe. Visit http://bikenewportri.org for more information.

** The next bulk event will be on November 18th, 2017.

Household Hazardous Waste:
* There is an Eco-Depot on September 30th in Newport (Easton’s Beach), more info here: https://www.rirrc.org/node/283

2) PAY User Fee
The annual user fee of $141 is due by October 31. I have the stickers at my office, 9 Berkeley Ave or payment can be mailed to the same address.
The 2018 renewal form: http://refuse-collection.middletownri.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/12/2017/09/2018-subscription-fee-application.pdf
We offer a payment plan as well, more info can be found here:

3) Yard waste
Please, please, PLEASE, only place material that has grown in your yard out for yard waste collection. Too often our yard waste truck driver reports lumber, litter, dog waste and other treasures mixed in with the yard waste.

All of Middletown’s yard waste gets tipped at Rhode Island Nurseries’ facility where it is composted and spread on the fields. If trash is mixed in it doesn’t break down and litters their field and surrounding property.

Thank you!

You may view the schedule and information about the PAYT program online at:

4) Shredded Paper
Shredded paper is no longer accepted in our recycling program due to it being hard to capture, contamination to the other recyclables, and bags jamming equipment. Here’s

Shredding events: there is a free shredding event in Johnston RI this Saturday, Sept 16: https://www.rirrc.org/node/292
